Rollin' in the Dough.

How bout General Conference, huh? What'd you guys think?
I hope all your prayers were answered.
There were some fantastic quotes this time around too. I've included a couple.

Did it seem like the prayers were shorter? Or am I the only one who noticed that?

Hot Button Topics:
Gay Marriage - I really liked how definitive and clear the talks
were about this topic. Gay marriage is not okay. It is not in line with the gospel. If you are participating in or supporting of gay marriage, you need to stop. No beating around the bush. It's crazy that it has gotten to this point. Christopher and I have had many conversations about this topic. In my opinion, homosexual attraction is just another temptation that some of us have to deal with on Earth. But this just makes it easy to see how hard Satan is fighting to destroy morality. I won't rant anymore about this one.

Pornography: Of course there were a couple talks on this topic. What was interesting to me was how there seemed to be less. Pornography is so ingrained in our society today that we have to protect our children from it at an early age. I have no doubt that the overabundance of pornographic content on the internet and in the media has led to this confusion about homosexuality and gay marriage.

Women and the Priesthood: Okay, I admit it, I watched the priesthood session. Or at least, I was in the room while Christopher and Kolby were watching it. Although, what was interesting to me was how often it felt like they were addressing those women who were pushing for the priesthood and fighting for tickets to priesthood session. I'm all for feminism in the way that I'm proud to be a woman and proud of the fact that we get to vote and have rights and stuff, but I am not about to force my way into the priesthood after the First Presidency has repeatedly said no. That has gone from an innocent questioning about rights to outright disobedience to the prophet. And that I'm not okay with. I'm glad that the church has been clear that the priesthood is only for men. If there are women who still want the priesthood, they are not in line with the teachings of the church and should stop trying to make us like the RLDS church. Because they already give women the priesthood there.

My favorite quotes from Conference:
(Other than the ones in the pictures I posted)

"How much of life do we miss by looking for the rainbow and forgetting to be grateful for the rain?" - Elder Uchtdorf
Being from Arizona, we know not to take the rain for granted. Utah has had some dry summers too. But in the sense of being grateful, I think we all have something we can work on. I know that this quote stuck out to me because I have to stop myself when I realize I'm complaining too much. We've become so entitled. I'm sure God would appreciate it if we took a moment to just express how grateful we are for everything that he has given us. Rainbows are nice and everything, but the rain is what keeps us going.

"Why is it that the ones we love most so frequently become the targets of our harsh words?" - President Monson
This quote really hit home for me. I tend to get pretty angry sometimes and I know that my loved ones won't judge me for being harsh with them, so I tend to take everything out on them. Especially Christopher. He's a trooper, but that's something I need to work on.

One final plug about Conference: I, unfortunately, didn't make coffee cake as is tradition in my family. I stepped it up a notch with cinnamon rolls! Get it, "Rollin' in the Dough"? This is only the first reference to dough in this post. These cinnamon rolls, however, took 3-4 hours to make and as such, I will probably not make them very often. They were very delicious, but I definitely missed having coffee cake.

    • 5 PM to 9 PM - Rugby Usher
  • Saturday and Sunday were conference days.
    • Christopher and I woke up at 9 and bought stuff for cinnamon rolls, then watched the morning session.
    • Between sessions we went to buy Christopher a new phone.
    • Then we watched the afternoon session and took a nap. From 5 PM until 9 PM.
    • Then we got a pizza, watched a movie, and went back to bed.
    • Sunday we watched both sessions, then napped again. This time from 5 PM until 8 PM.
Can you tell I'm sleep deprived?! If you felt exhausted reading that, just imagine how I felt living it!

Thankfully, I think I'm on the downhill slope of my semester.
And concerning that internship interview, I got it! Starting in May I'll be interning daily at a gluten-free bakery called New Grains from 5AM until noon. Then probably working at the info desk until close, then at the Convention Center in the evenings when they have events. Because the internship only offers a stipend, and not a full wage. Oh well, the experience will be good I think. The lady started baking these gluten free items in her basement because her husband had Celiac's disease and couldn't have gluten. It's a cool story. Now, they're moving out of the basement into an actual bakery facility and I'll be there for the transition. More Dough.

SO STOKED.
So much for sleeping in this
summer though.

Another super cool occurrence of the week was that we finally got our hefty tax return :)
It was nice because it was deposited into our bank account the same time we got my paychecks for my super busy work week.
That's how we could afford to buy Christopher's new iPhone 5c straight from the Apple Store. We shocked the employees a little bit with that one ;)

Next up, McKell's getting a shopping spree!

We're Rollin' in the Dough.
